Stromness Glimmers: A Festival of Light
12–14 November 2026
Artist Open Call
We are thrilled to announce an exciting opportunity for artists as we open a call for expressions of interest for the highly anticipated Stromness Glimmers 2026: A Festival of Light.
In the dark evenings of 12–14 November 2026, the festival will transform the streets of Stromness into a free, spectacular gallery of illuminated artworks for all to enjoy and explore.
This will be an event presenting an outdoor gallery of video projections and sculptural light art installations via a walking trail through the town – reimagining familiar places through the eyes of artists. We aim to light up the built environment with ‘Glimmers’, bringing art to the whole community.
Inspiration for the naming of the festival came from the beautiful reflective poem ‘Lux Perpetua’ by Stromness’s very own ‘Poet Laureate’, George Mackay Brown.
Lux Perpetua.
A star for a cradle
Sun for plough and net
A fire for old stories
A candle for the dead.
Lux perpetua
By such glimmers we seek you.
We invite Orkney-based artists or groups to present their innovative proposals for an engaging light artwork that has the power to captivate and inspire audiences of all ages.
This inaugural Festival of Light provides a fantastic opportunity for both established light-art professionals and those new to the medium to showcase their creativity and artistic vision.
We strongly encourage participation, inviting you to submit imaginative ideas that can contribute to making this festival a truly unforgettable experience for all involved.
