Stromness Glimmers

12–14 November 2026

Welcome to the online hub for Stromness Glimmers 2026: A Festival of Light, where you can find all the latest information from workshops and light art to refreshments and merchandise. We will be adding to this page regularly so please check back here for updates and announcements.

In the dark evenings of 12–14 November 2026, the festival will transform the streets of Stromness into a free, spectacular gallery of illuminated artworks for all to enjoy and explore. Featuring work by some of Móti’s members along with a selection of other talented local artists, supported by Orkney Islands Council Culture Fund and Sutherland’s Pharmacy.

Inspiration for the naming of the festival came from the closing line of the beautiful reflective poem ‘Lux Perpetua’ by Stromness’s very own ‘Poet Laureate’, George Mackay Brown – ‘By such glimmers we seek you.’

What’s on

Drop in shadow play & creative writing workshop

11am-3pm, Saturday 7th November at Stromness Community Centre, nursery hall

Writer Gaby Barnby and Móti artists Kerrianne Flett and Mal Grieve will be guiding a fun, hands-on making session involving creative writing and experiments with light and shadow. Adults and children aged 6+ are welcome. Children should be accompanied by an adult, but adults do not need to be accompanied by a child!

Light Art

6pm-9pm, 12-14 November, Stromness Street

For three evenings there will be an outdoor gallery of video projections and sculptural light art installations via a walking trail through the town – reimagining familiar places through the eyes of artists. We aim to light up the built environment with ‘Glimmers’, bringing art to the whole community. Check back for more details!
