Introducing Móti
Orkney Museum, Kirkwall, 5th–26th November 2016
Exhibiting artists: Louise Barrington, Susan Boyd, Kristyn Grieve, Mal Grieve, Frances Scott and Sigurd Smith.
Introducing Móti, the collective’s inaugural exhibition, presented a series of individual works responding to the theme of Time. This inspiration was chosen collectively to reflect the transition from student to emerging artist.
With backing from the Creative Learning Network Fund, we formed MÓTI to try and bring our diversity of knowledge together and develop a fresh and supportive platform, post art school. This group environment gave us momentum after graduating, despite being geographically removed from large creative hubs such as the Central Belt or London, and helped bridge the gap between studying and becoming established artists and designers.
Our founding members had studied in Kirkwall, Glasgow, Skye, London and Toronto, with their work spanning a variety of disciplines. This made for a varied and exciting introductory exhibition, bringing together photography, painting and printmaking, textiles, sculpture and installation art.
